Privacy Policy
Effective 7 October 2026
Veblen is an app for learning finance and economics. This policy explains what the app collects, why, where it is kept and how you can have it deleted. It covers the Veblen app for iPhone and iPad and this website.
Veblen is made by Peter Åmo Nesbakk, an individual developer in Norway, who is responsible for your data (the "controller" under the GDPR). Contact: support@getveblen.app.
The short version
- You can read lessons without an account. Some features, like saving your progress and making your own quizzes, need one (Sign in with Apple).
- We keep only what the app needs to work: your account, what you create, and your learning progress.
- No ads, no tracking, no analytics companies, and we never sell your data.
- Everything is stored in the EU. You can delete your account and its data in the app at any time.
What we collect
Your account
When you sign in with Apple, Apple gives us an identifier for your account and, if you choose, your email address (or a private relay address that forwards to you) and your name. We store the email address with your account and keep your first name only to greet you in the app.
What you create
Quizzes and card sets you make, with their questions, answers and any photos you add. Photos are stored at a long, unguessable web address that the app uses to show them; anyone who had that exact address could open the photo, so don't add photos you want to keep strictly private. In this version you cannot share your quizzes with other people.
Your learning
- Your answers in quizzes and practice, and how well you know each item (your progress).
- Lessons and pages you have opened, saved or bookmarked, so you can return to them.
- Your settings: reading language, country and how lessons are shown.
- Today's Decision: the option you choose each day and when you answered, so the story continues across your devices. Other people see only percentages for each option, and only once enough people have answered; never who chose what.
Searches and messages
- The words you type into search are saved without any link to you or your device, to see what people look for.
- If you email us, we keep the conversation to answer you and fix what you report.
Kept only on your device
Drafts, downloaded content, reminder times and the app's display settings stay on your iPhone or iPad. Reminders are scheduled by your device; we don't send them from a server.
What we don't collect
No location, contacts, advertising identifiers or browsing on other apps and websites. The app contains no advertising, analytics or tracking software. This version of Veblen doesn't use artificial intelligence on your answers.
Why we use it
| Use | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Running your account, saving what you create and your progress, showing Today's Decision | To provide the service you asked for (contract, art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Anonymous search words, to improve the content | Our legitimate interest in accurate, useful lessons (art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Answering you when you contact support | Our legitimate interest in helping you (art. 6(1)(f)) |
Who processes it
- Supabase hosts the database, file storage and sign-in for Veblen, in the European Union (Ireland), under a data processing agreement.
- Apple handles Sign in with Apple and delivers the app. Apple's own privacy policy applies to what Apple collects.
We don't share your data with anyone else, unless the law requires us to.
How long we keep it
We keep your data as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your account, your quizzes and card sets, your photos and your progress are deleted. Anonymous search words are kept, since they can't be linked to anyone. Emails are deleted when they are no longer needed to help you. Deleted data can remain in our hosting provider's backups for a short time until they are overwritten.
Your rights
- Delete your account: in the app, go to Settings → Profile → Delete account.
- See, correct or get a copy of your data, or object to how we use it: email support@getveblen.app. We answer within 30 days.
- Complain: you can contact the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) or the authority where you live.
Children
Veblen is meant for people aged 13 and over. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
